Peep Experiment with Measuring
Students were reviewing measurement for ISTEP, therefore, we created a Peep investigation for Easter. Students had to measure and list observations about the Peep. We went to the teacher's lounge and microwaved the Peeps for 30 seconds. Students then recorded their new observations, checked predictions, and re-measured (to the nearest 1/4inch) the Peep after stretching it as far as we could.
Student Work Samples
Design Thinking
Stanford dSchool is a humanities approach to the design process. We launched design thinking using Stanford's Crash Course, which can be found here. The students really enjoyed the fast-paced, upbeat process and freedom of voice and choice. You can view their problem statements and the gift the designed through the empathy-based design thinking challenge.
Build with Chrome
Students spent a week learning about the design process and exploring the application Build with Chrome to enhance their learning. The students (and I) had a blast learning an essential skill in a technology-enriched way. We used the Indiana Interactive Science: Grade 4 basal by Pearson to guide our learning about the design process. You can check out the entire week's lesson plans by clicking the link below. :)
