Why Our Chromed Out Classroom is Essential:
Education is challenging these days, but it is a challenge I thrive on. We have the opportunity to train students for jobs that have yet been created, technology that hasn't been thought of, and problems that have yet to arrive. We are creating digitally savvy problem solvers who value the concept that "the smartest person in the room is the room." Our student's "rooms" go beyond the tradition four walls of the classroom. Their "rooms" are global. In our case, their room lives within the Google ecosystem. Our job is to implement 21st century skills that foster collaboration and a deeper level of thinking where students are accountable for their own anytime, anywhere learning.

Collaboration has Gone Google!
I treasure my Chromed out classroom because the Google ecosystem allows students to collaborate in ways that were once unimaginable. Students can work within the same document, presentation, drawing, etc. and give real-time feedback on such artifacts. Teachers can grade anytime, anywhere on ANY device. I would say it truly is a powerful teaching tool, but it's not just a tool - it's become a part of pedagogy.
Technology is Ever-Changing & Teachers Need to Stay Ahead
Continual self-directed professional development is essential in a profession that is immersed in ever-changing technological platforms. Students are coming in with more and more technology experience and even surpassing teachers! We need to stay up-to-date and in the know about what platforms are out there and which ones are efficient for us. Check out the video below for students reacting to not-so-old technology.
